Our Mission and Welcome Statement
To communicate the gospel
through worship and work; to welcome, care for, and encourage the people of this
community regardless of ethnic heritage, national origin, age, gender, marital status,
sexual orientation, or socio-economic standing; and to promote a just society,
demonstrating in word and deed the love of Christ for all people.

You’ve found your way to our website for a reason! If you are typical of our community, you might be:
- A new resident or student in Morningside Heights looking for a Presbyterian Church.
- Persons newly engaged and planning a wedding at
St. Paul’s Chapel or near campus
- A Christian at Columbia University or Barnard College wanting a vital Campus Ministry with a progressive social outlook.
- A conservative by background who no longer feels at home in your tradition
- A “seeker” whose spirit is stirring—but who wants the “right” kind of church
- An interfaith couple. If you are not married yet, you need a church that respects and values your fiancée’s individuality. If you are married or have children, you need a God big enough to make a home for all of you.
- A lover of sacred music that is open to varied traditions and styles.
- A GLBT person who is seeking an affirming and supportive community.
- Persons alienated by the political agenda of the nation’s most vocal preachers and denominations.
- A unique and gifted individual who values a personal connection to the worshiping community—you want a church where the “lost” are “found”.
- A parent who is disconnected from church but wants a nurturing community of faith in which to raise children.
- A seeker, a skeptic, a person holding up her or his light, looking for honesty and a viable faith.
Perhaps none of these categories fit you exactly, but they are often-told stories of the weary travelers who find their way through our doors. We are committed to an authentic Christian faith that avoids the negatives so common in our day: The xenophobia, narrow-mindedness and rigidity that turn so many would-be disciples away from church.
Broadway Presbyterian is a kind of “test-pilot” for the new vehicle of church that our times seem to demand. We invite you aboard to share your gifts and your journey with us as we take flight.
