A few words on Broadway Presbyterian Church's music program by artists in residence Patrick Evans & Djordje Stevan Nesic. Broadway's congregation represents many cultures, peoples and nations. The music you'll hear at any service reflects that rich, diverse heritage.
Music expresses all emotions, from joy and exhilaration, to sadness and mournfulness. A line of text set to a simple melody can touch and comfort people without extensive musical training. The meaning of a joyful Korean "Alleluia", for example, is clear in any culture, since music is a global language that brings people together, gives joy, or offers comfort. Glorious pieces of JS Bach or G Handel can truly lift the spirit, which they have been doing for centuries. However, a simple traditional or chant-like melody can also help a congregation member get through a difficult day in the ensuing week.
People who sing here are the members of the congregation, and we are blessed with many beautiful voices! Singing in the choir is a wonderful friendly experience. We encourage everybody to come and try it out, since there the ability to read music is not a requirement
