What would happen if one woman told the story of her life? The world would split open. -Muriel Rukeyser
Womens lives tell the most amazing stories, and the women of this church are no exception. Since this past May, a group of women have been gathering every other week to share and share in one anothers stories, the stories of the women who came before us, and the stories of our God. We have done some serious readingarticles on female images of the Divine, the connections between domestic violence and redemptive suffering, even the power of the erotic. We have discussed and critiqued articles we read, and used our knowledge to plan worship services together in August and March. We have made collages, eaten together, danced together, and yes, even finger-painted.
For the purposes of complete disclosure, let me say that I am the convener of this group, but even so, it has been for me a place of safety, rest, challenge, and discovery. I feel so blessed and honored to get to know the women of this church, and to help them to know one another. If you feel disconnected, or are just looking for something to plug into, (and you are a woman) this group is a wonderful way to find your, well, niche (but you dont have to be a young person to come
Heres what people are saying about the womens group at BPC:
I really enjoyed being in the Women's Group. We came together from different situations and backgrounds and each woman contributed something about herself to the group. Preparing the summer service was a little intimidating, but it turned out to be a great experience for all of us. I look forward to seeing what the next project is! -Margaret Johnson
I thought the group would be made up of ladies older than I who would have a much better picture of God than I do. But I found that everyone, regardless of age, is on a different part of the path. Now I think I am using the group as therapy sessions with women whose advice I trust. -Rosalynd Darling
